Tsinghua Tops Global Ranking in Three SubjectsByCheng Yuezhu July 20, 2022Independent academic research organization ShanghaiRanking Consultancy released its Global Ranking of Academic Subjects 2022 on Tuesday, listing global universities by 54 subjects across natural sciences, engineering, life sciences, medical sciences, and social sciences. More than 1,800 out of 5,000 universities across 96 countries and regions are ranked in the list. Universities from the United States appear 4,714 times, followed by Chinese universities 3,108 times and the United Kingdom 1,613 times. Universities from the Chinese mainland won the top place in 14 subjects. Tsinghua University ranks best in the world in three subjects, with nanoscience and nanotechnology securing the crown for the first time. Hohai University from Jiangsu Province is ranked top in the subject of water resources for the first time. Compared with last year's statistics, the number of universities from the Chinese mainland included in the ranking increased by 7.7 percent, and the number of times these universities appear in the table rose by 8.7 percent.
